Being out in the middle of nowhere had its drawbacks as you might imagine, but every so often something good would happen--like a USO show!
While we were disappointed the major shows like Jerry Reed of country music fame or Miss America did not get out to the back country where we were located in northwestern Turkey, a few shows came through, namely those that could travel in a couple of pickup trucks or a bus! You can be sure we gave them that famous "Top of the Mountain Lounge" welcome when they came on stage to perform!

Well, here are some performers who can say played the "Top of the Mountain" ... a rock and roll band who electrified the site with their renditions of classic rock including Eric Clapton songs...

...and a magician with rope tricks traveling with his own musical backup band! That's a Turkish soldier on the left and William Michael "Doc" Feaster, one of our medics, on the right.
(Did you notice how everyone dressed up nice and we decorated the lounge when these performers came through? No kidding--we did it every time!)
