On the west side of
Springfield, Ohio, just east of where the National Road (aka US
Route 40) meets west Main Street, the neighborhood community cleaned
up a trash-strewn lot to improve their neighborhood and commemorate
a New York Central interlocking tower called "West End Tower."
This was a great, grassroots community effort and left a nice,
safe place to snap pictures of Norfolk Southern and other
trains coming through town.
While I was reading over the park's
historical sign...

...Norfolk Southern 2550 led a
train through on the track behind the sign, right next to the
park...

...passing by the green
signal at west Main Street.

Crossing west Main St with its whistle
blasting, NS 2550 and 6514 enter the next block of track,
tripping the red signal...

...as they drag their classic Mid-west
consist of tank cars and auto racks westward towards
Dayton.
