On Saturday January 19,
Joey earned a town pass from basic training and took his Dad and me
to see the Alamo.
For those who've forgotten their
American History I lessons from high school, the Alamo was a
fortified mission in San Antonio where the Texans who wanted to
secede from Mexico battled General Santa Ana and the Mexican
Army.

Unfortunately, the Texans including
Davey Crockett of Kentucky and Jim Bowie of Texas lost the battle
and their lives.

Joey and his Dad are
standing just to the left of the Alamo's doors. Davey Crockett
was killed about four feet in front of where they are
standing.
I was terribly unimpressed
that the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, do not allow
photographs to be taken inside the Alamo, even without flash
attachments on your cameras.

Their thinking might make
sense except you can walk a few blocks over to the old cathedral and
take pictures inside where the cremated remains of Davey Crockett,
Jim Bowie and the other Alamo defenders repose in eternal
rest.
Hey, Joey, thanks for
taking me with you. This was a treat for me since I was a
baaaaaaaaad boy in basic training in '76 and didn't earn a town
pass to see the Alamo!
