Since launching the
TUSLOG Detachment 150 pages here on Bluejeans' Place, I've received
more than a few notes from folks who were assigned there before or
after my 1981-1982 tour. We recently learned our Det 150 pages
are about the only historical record of the Detachment. As a
public service, I am posting photos and information provided by
various Det 150 alumni to expand the Detachment's historical
record.
Then-Airman David R. "Russ" Koch, an
electronics maintenance and repair technician on tropospheric
communications equipment, (Air Force Specialty Code 30450), dropped
me this note on October 31, 2002:
Pat, Good going! I was Airman
Koch (30450) Electronics Maintenance and Repair (Tropo).
Spent a year in Turkey at Det 150 in 1968, early 69. Lots of
blurry memories now. WHAT A YEAR! Some good some bad,
of course. I was a mighty lonely guy, but Bursa, Iznik, the
Mamara and Uludag were great destinations I wonder if you
get any contacts from people that were there with me.
Pittman, Lampe, Zambrana, Dorn, 38 of us in all, rotating in and
out. Impossible to get hold of these guys unless they
contact you! Russ
Russ filled in some holes in our knowledge on
Det 150's history and provided some pictures. Please click on
Russ's Det 150 alumnus page to
see some interesting photos and text.
A. J. Aldrich, who was stationed at Det 150 in
1979 and 1980 sent a wealth of information. Please click on AJ's Det 150 alumnus page for
details.
Joe Chiro, who was stationed at Det 150 from
December 1966 to December 1967 sent some photos which show the site
when some of the mobile radio antennas were still in place.
Please click on Joe's Det 150 alumnus
page for details.
Bob Popper, who served at Det 150 from August
1967 to August 1968 sent pictures of not only the site, but also the
equipment and off-duty life. Please check Bob's Det 150 alumnus page for
details.
Harold Maier who served at Det 150 with me in
1981 and 1982 sent a group photo, taken in The
Top of the Mountain Lounge, from those
years.

Harold provides the following
identification -- if you know more on any of these people,,
please drop me a note
Top Row
Green, Schwalbe, Lee, Deschres,
Shewmaker, Harold Maier, Henson
Center Row
Skille, Lawson, Starega, Jim Ramsey,
Stevens, Drake
Floor
Walter Brock, Mader
Quick funny story--see the "framed
portraits" at the top of the photo? Every time the chaplain
came to the site, we'd have to run around and take these down until
after he left. Father Sam Sacus, the "circuit rider" from
Incirlik, who belonged to the Diocese of Charleston, SC asked me in
the lounge on one visit, "So does the same person who took down the
pictures of God's creatures get to put them back up?" I guess
the dozens of empty nails near the top of the site lounge's walls
were pretty obvious!
Jerry Richardson sent me a large
collection of photos from his 73-74 tour at Sahintepe. More
than a few of them are posted on his alumnus page.
