As you might have learned by now,
I make my living as a project manager . When I put Bluejeans'
Place together, I decided to include a project management page to
share some "tricks of the trade."
My Project Management Professional (PMP)
Examination Study Aids
Are you getting ready for your Project Management
Professional (PMP) Examination? Great! Now how about some study aids? Visit my other PM pages
to find a few I developed while getting ready to take my PMP
examination.
- A project
schedule which shows all of the PM phases and
processes outlined in the Project Management Book of
Knowledge (PMBOK).
- A no-nonsense way to understand
and learn the PERT-estimating
formula for project
time estimation.
- An easy to understand, yet
comprehensive explanation of project cost
equations and their
usage.
- My thoughts on preparing for
the PMP examination. Yes, it's tough, but not as hard as
some PMPs make it out to be (what are they, elitists?).
Here's my feedback on the whole process which I wrote up within
days of nailing my PMP certificate to the wall. This
document contains updates since then as late as this year
- Another PMP's
notes on how Jan
Nicolas, PMP, approached the PMP examination. I used
these notes to tighten up the "bulls-eye" of my studying as my
examination date approached.
New Educational
Requirement For PMP Exam Candidates
Do you know about this
requirement which must be met prior to applying to take the PMP
exam? Click here
for details on the PM Educational Requirement.
The Notorious PM Experience
Resume
I get a few e-mails a
week from potential PMP exam candidates asking about the PM
Experience Resume. Click here for some updated information on
the notorious PM Experience
Resume. I call it notorious because it was a tedious
project in of itself to complete!
Project Decision Making
A lot of folks tell me they
don't know how to make a good decision they can trust in project
management. It sounds like they could use a good, time-tested
comprehensive decision model for not just project management, but in
every day life. Visit my Project Decision
Making page for a copy of one.
Requirements and
Statement of Work Improvement Questions
A
few project managers, mostly newcomers to the business, but also
some business analysts, asked me how to ask good questions to
develop a comprehensive statement of work. While such
questions could result easily in a 100 page book, I wrote an
article on the questions I normally ask to develop a succinct,
yet complete requirements document or statement or
work.

This
article, published
in the July 2002 edition of PMI-ISSIG BITS, the
Information Systems Special Interest Group's newsletter can be
downloaded by clicking this link here on Bluejeans'
Place.
In the past two years, this page has been
visited by many project managers from all walks of life and all
sorts of places ranging from many US states to Beijing to Bangalore
to Moscow to the Ukraine. Please drop me a note if any of these
items help you or just to say hi!
Project
Management Failure Warning Signs
I added a new page
outlining, for your use or amusement, some of the
project management failure warning signs I've observed over
the years.
And for everyone who needs
a laugh, check out this "Twas the Night
Before Implementation" tale sent to me by Jim Lowery who
works with me at BTAS.

Be sure to visit my Toy Train Layout Page,
too!
