At dusk on July 8, 2000, Bo
Diddley was the headliner at the Concert of Colors, a celebration of
diversity, in Detroit. Here are a few pictures from the front
row! Here's the scene right after Bo came on stage, entering as
usual, playing his trademark song, "Bo Diddley". Don't you
feel like you're there?

Bo was backed up by the Debbie
Hastings Band from New York City featuring Debbie Hastings on bass,
Margo Lewis on keyboards, Jon Paris on guitar and Yoshi Shimada
on drums.
I think Bo was shocked
when the crowd, more than 4,000, jumped to their feet and stayed
standing, cheering, singing, and clapping for the hour he
performed! Bo went through quite a few of his
other older hits such as "Hey, Bo Diddley" which dates from 1954
and "Road Runner" which is rumored to have inspired the Warner
Brothers' cartoon character of the same
name.

In the picture
below, Bo rocks through the masculine anthem, "I'm a Man" which
has been redone by many rockers.

Towards the end of
the show, Bo, in the scene above, led the crowd through the
song "Kids, Don't Do It" which urges children to stay away from
drugs, gangs and weapons. How many other performers take on
such a controversial topic in every show in an effort to make
this a better country? Name one...I dare ya!

The man who put the
"rock" in rock and roll sure knows how to close out a rock concert!
Rock on, Bo Diddley, rock on!
