As you might guess from looking
elsewhere on this site, I'm doing my best to uphold tradition and
totally corrupt my grandchild, Savannah, on blues music.
You don't think I'm serious?
How about this serious--I
nicknamed the youngster "Mojo" because Savannah loves the
song "Got My Mojo Workin'", whether it's the Muddy Waters version or
the Johnny Winter cover of it!
So how about a few pictures
from the 2000 Dayton Blues Festival held in August where Mojo got to
spend the day with about 4,000 of her fellow blues fans?
When we arrived around 1pm,
there was a pretty big crowd there--even Mojo
was impressed when she looked around! (Like the hat that says "Mojo" on it???
Guess who got that made for the grandkid?
<ducking> I take the "Fifth"!)

L ate in the afternoon, a group of seasoned blues
players took to the stage under their new band name of
"Rock-n-Rogers". Muddy Waters would have been
proud to hear them play! I know Mojo loved 'em! The
keyboardist on the right is Jimmy D. Rogers, a seasoned bluesman and
keyboardist, who used to back up Bo Diddley, Marcia Ball, Buddy
Miles and more stars. Through Bluejeans' Place, I became
acquainted with Jimmy, caught some of his shows with his band
"Brown Street Breakdown" and attended his recent CD release
party for " Back Burner
Boogie " . (If you click on the Back Burner
Boogie Link, you'll find how to buy a copy of that CD which is
EXCELLENT! )

While
Rock-n-Rogers came on stage at supper time when the crowd was tired
from the heat and humidity, it only took these blues masters a
couple of minutes, as you can see below, to get the crowd up on
its feet!

Just before that,
forgetting about watching, little Mojo tried to join the
band! Here she is playing "air guitar" with Eric Jerardi and
his band....after Grandpa Bluejeans dragged her
back down from the actual stage!
Of course, I'll
always say there's nothing like a good blues festival to chill you
out--even when you're crazy
enough to bring a five year old with you!

How about a big round of applause to
all the bands who played and the people who helped pull off the 2000
Dayton Blues festival! I can't wait until the 2001
version!
